PREPARATION

At your visit, remember to bring your referral (a letter from your doctor) as well as your Medicare and/or Pension Health Care cards. It is crucial to bring any and all results from previous examinations relating to the area being scanned.

Please be on time for your appointment to ensure there is sufficient time available to perform the procedure.

You will need to arrive with a full bladder in order to assure accurate images. To accomplish this, urinate two hours prior to your consultation, followed immediately by 600 ml of water.

Prior to the procedure, do not urinate again.

You're free to eat as usual and take any prescribed medications.

A hand-held probe is used to transmit and collect the ultrasonic waves as it is moved over the belly. There won't be any discomfort or pain.
Your procedure could take anywhere from 15 to 60 minutes.

After your examination, the images from your study will be available on the Medscan Z-tech app. A report written by our radiologists, along with the images will be sent directly to your referring doctor. Medscan will store digital copies of all studies on our secure database for comparison with any future examinations.  All images are available online with the Medscan Z-link app()

Why has my doctor requested an ultrasound?
 An ultrasound is a non-invasive test that can help you keep track of your pregnancy. This examination may reveal important details about your pregnancy that will help the doctor make sure that both you and your unborn child have a happy outcome.
A doctor may ask for an ultrasound for a variety of reasons. A few of these include: • To help determine the gestational age (when the baby is due).
• To gauge a baby's growth.
• To determine the number of babies.
• To look for any potential anomalies.
• To monitor any bleeding that occurs during the pregnancy.

Can I eat before having an obstetric ultrasound?
 You can eat before your ultrasound. You are required to have a full bladder. It is necessary to drink 600-800ml of water two hours prior to the scan and refrain from going to the toilet before the scan.

Can I have a female sonographer/technician to perform the scan?
 Yes, please let reception know when making your appointment.  We have female radiographers and sonographers sensitive to the needs of female patients.

Is this test safe for my baby?
 A lot of the body's organs can be evaluated using ultrasound, which is a very safe and precise investigative procedure. To obtain images, ultrasound uses safe, high-frequency, inaudible sound waves. Adults, children, and babies are not harmed by or bothered by ultrasound waves. An ultrasound examination uses NO radiation.

Will the sonographer performing my scan tell me what’s wrong?
 It is the sonographer’s duty to perform the test and ensure the images are of high quality for the radiologist (specialist) to interpret them.
